Our team's ability to deliver 4,980 m² of fully prefabricated timber-frame curtain wall, complete with pre-fitted services and finishes, significantly reduced on-site work and assembly time. Achieving an exceptional airtightness rating and contributing to both BREEAM and passive house certifications demonstrates our commitment to high-performance, future-proof buildings.
Project Overview
A new six-storey passive office building was constructed for Elia in Brussels, designed to be a landmark in high energy performance and sustainability. This development was even designated a showcase project by Brussels Environment in 2011.
The building's shell features a prefabricated curtain wall, impressively covering 4,980 m² with a timber-frame structure, natural insulation, and recycled anodized aluminum panels. MBS's production plant played a crucial role, as the client pre-fitted the exterior blinds, all necessary services, joinery, interior jamb finishes, and the recycled anodized aluminum exterior cladding in prefabricated form. This extensive prefabrication eliminated the need for exterior work on the building site, leading to significant reductions in assembly time and overall costs. The entire prefabricated timber-frame structure was efficiently mounted to the concrete frame structure at a rate of seven components per day. The building has achieved an excellent airtightness rating of 0.3h-1 in tests and has been awarded both a BREEAM label and a passive house certificate, underscoring its exceptional environmental credentials.
