The new fire station in Berendrecht, strategically located in the heart of the port area, stands as a testament to sustainable construction. The design intentionally prioritizes concrete and timber as the primary building materials. The lower floors feature a robust concrete structure integrated with sustainable timber-frame construction components, while the top floor is entirely built around a timber frame. This innovative hybrid approach allows for larger spans, particularly above the garage, while maintaining a crucial lightweight structure due to the use of wood. The building's exterior is entirely clad in timber, contributing to its sustainable aesthetic.
