Our team successfully transformed existing student housing in Hasselt by adding six new rooms through a highly efficient timber-frame upward extension. The ability to prefabricate components with joinery, brick slips, and electrical fittings in our plant allowed for an incredibly rapid two-day on-site installation, meeting the tight deadline and providing students with safe, fire-resistant, and acoustically certified living spaces.
Project Overview
An existing three-room student house on Ambachtsschoolstraat in Hasselt underwent a significant expansion, increasing its capacity to nine rooms. The order for this timber-frame upward extension was placed in May 2016 with a critical condition: the building needed to be wind and watertight by July 1st of the same year.
MBS met this challenge by utilizing prefabricated components, which were pre-fitted with joinery, brick slips, power sockets, and switches at the MBS production plant. This advanced prefabrication allowed for the entire extension to be installed on-site in an impressive two days. The project was successfully completed on June 30th, just meeting the deadline. The newly expanded building is certified as fire-resistant and boasts acoustic certification, ensuring a safe and peaceful living environment for students moving in from September onwards.
