Peerdsbos Sports Centre

We are incredibly proud to have partnered on the Peerdsbos Sports Centre, realizing the Province of Antwerp's first certified passive building. Our prefabricated timber-frame expertise allowed us to erect the core structure in just one month, delivering a fully accessible and remarkably energy-efficient facility that truly champions inclusive sports and sustainable design.
Project Overview
The Peerdsbos Sports Centre in Brasschaat stands as the Province of Antwerp's first certified passive building, meticulously designed to be fully wheelchair accessible and a beacon for G-sport expertise. This provincial sports center provides 100% accessibility for athletes with and without disabilities.
MBS began construction of the new building, an extension to the existing sports hall, in January 2017. The strategic choice of timber-frame construction allowed for the rapid erection of the new structure in just one month. The facility features a new cafeteria overlooking the sports amenities, with a terrace that extends to the adjacent football field.
The sports center excels in energy efficiency, having received a passive certificate from Pixii – Knowledge Platform for Energy-Neutral Building, signifying an exceptionally high energy ambition. For most of the year, the passive design ensures a comfortable indoor temperature without the need for active heating or cooling. Key technical features include a conditioned floor area of 1250 m², highly insulated timber-frame walls (0.12 W/m²K) and flat roofs (0.07 W/m²K) filled with mineral wool, solar collectors for hot water, and high-efficiency heat recovery ventilation, all complemented by energy-efficient LED lighting and large skylights for ample daylight.
