De Groene Parel Primary School

We're proud to have contributed to the innovative 'De Groene Parel' project, a true 'open school' concept that blends education with community living. Our team's expertise in designing and building prefabricated timber-frame elements allowed us to efficiently expand the primary school with six new classrooms, delivering a functional, light-filled, and vibrant learning environment that stands as a testament to collaborative, forward-thinking construction.
Project Overview
The De Groene Parel project encompasses the construction of a school and nursery in a beautiful residential area in St-Pieters-Leeuw. The school, nursery, and adjacent apartments have already been completed, emerging from a collaboration between GO! (Community Education) and Montreal Red. This initiative serves as a pilot project for the development of an 'open school' model, where GO! aims to create new school environments that integrate residential and other community functions.
The new school building is highly functional, emphasizing natural light, surrounding greenery, and vibrant colors in both its architecture and interior finishes. Its facade is particularly notable for its cheerful color surfaces. MBS was responsible for the production and installation of the prefabricated HSB elements for the additional floor on the existing school building, acting as a Design & Build contractor. This expansion, which added six new classrooms, was successfully completed in 2021.
