Redemptorist Vlaanderen

We embrace the challenge of large-scale, multifunctional urban redevelopment. For the Redemptorist monastery project, our team expertly installed 7,500 m² of prefabricated timber-frame façade elements, meticulously designed to meet stringent fire and vapor transmission regulations. This efficient process, including complex crane installations, allowed us to swiftly transform the site, providing 540 high-quality student rooms while respecting the unique heritage of the location.
Project Overview
The former Redemptorist monastery in Ghent, a 2.8-hectare site that had become too large for its remaining five priests, underwent a significant redevelopment starting in 2015. This multifunctional infill project was designed to accommodate housing, short-term accommodation, and continued religious use. A key component of this transformation was the construction of a complex featuring 540 student rooms. The building's core consists of a concrete supporting structure, around which an impressive insulation envelope of 7,500 m² of timber-frame façade elements was installed.
The design and implementation of these timber-frame façade elements meticulously addressed specific fire legislation and vapor transmission requirements. The installation process involved inserting the large timber-frame components under the terraces using an overhead crane pallet fork with a counterweight, showcasing efficient logistics. The exterior of the building is completed with a contemporary mix of decorative plaster and timber façade cladding.
