De Mandel

We are proud to contribute to vital social housing initiatives, and the De Mandel project perfectly showcases our commitment to sustainable and efficient construction for older communities. By supplying and installing the timber-frame construction for these 40 service flats, we enabled a rapid, high-quality upward extension that supports independent living, seamlessly integrating with existing care services and achieving impressive energy efficiency.
Project Overview
To address the shortage of social housing for older individuals, De Mandel undertook the construction of 40 social service flats in Rumbeke's Zilverberg neighbourhood. These housing units are strategically located adjacent to the recently-built De Zilverberg residential care home and service centre. This proximity allows tenants of the new apartments to maintain independent lives while easily accessing services like the "social restaurant" and other offerings provided by the care home.
The design, crafted by Architectuurbureau Vaneeckhout, features four separate complexes, each comprising 10 apartments, all designed to blend seamlessly into the open, green surroundings. Every block includes a mix of one-bedroom apartments suitable for one or two occupants, all equipped with modern conveniences and boasting an impressive E-level of below 70, indicating high energy efficiency. MBS supplied and installed the timber-frame construction for the entirety of this upward extension.
