Terkoest Alken Primary School

We pride ourselves on precision and speed, and the Terkoest Alken Primary School project perfectly showcases our capabilities. By leveraging advanced 3D design and industrial prefabrication of timber-frame components, our team ensured a record-fast assembly, delivering state-of-the-art, healthy, and energy-efficient classrooms and a gym well ahead of schedule. This is modular construction reimagined for optimal educational environments.
Project Overview
The Terkoest Alken Primary School project involved the construction of new nursery classrooms and a gym, funded through a public procurement contract with subsidies from the Flemish Agency for School Infrastructure (AGION) for the nursery and Alken Municipal Council for the gym.
MBS, acting as the general contractor, commenced earthworks on September 30, 2016. The core of the building's construction utilized prefabricated timber-frame walls, floors, and roofing, produced concurrently with the foundation work at MBS’s Genk plant using low-carbon methods and sustainable materials. These components arrived on-site pre-fitted with insulation, joinery, cladding, cables, service ducts, and electrical boxes, enabling extremely rapid and efficient assembly.
The integration of 3D design and industrial production significantly reduced on-site errors and drastically cut construction time, avoiding costly repairs. Thanks to this dry construction technique and high level of prefabrication, interior finishing could begin immediately after the timber-frame structure was erected. This streamlined process was crucial in achieving an ambitious delivery target by June 1, 2017. The prefabricated timber components ensure excellent insulation, high airtightness, certified fire resistance, and enhanced acoustics, providing an ideal, healthy, and energy-efficient indoor environment vital for a school setting.
