We thrive on delivering solutions for complex urban challenges. For 'The Doctoren' tower, our team expertly prefabricated and delivered aluminum-finished timber frame facades, up to 10 meters long, directly to the bustling city-center site. This precision allowed for minimal scaffolding and just-in-time delivery, proving our capability to build high-rise landmarks with efficiency and innovative design, even on the tightest urban footprints.
Project Overview
"The Doctoren" is an impressive 81-meter high residential tower located on the Kempische Dok in Antwerp's 't Eilandje district, commissioned by Immpact & Kairos and built by Interbuild. Designed by Binst Architects and Boydens Engineering, this 22-storey building features 154 flats, complete with indoor and outdoor terraces. Notably, it was erected on the pre-existing foundation of the ZNA hospital. As the tower ascends and becomes more slender, large tree boxes have been incorporated on the upper floors, creating "The Doctoren" unique distinction as having Antwerp's tallest tree park.
The building's aesthetic and structural efficiency are largely due to its prefabricated timber frame facades. These facades, varying in length from 3 to 10 meters and finished in aluminum, were meticulously produced in MBS's Genk production hall and arrived fully finished at the site. This significantly reduced the need for extensive scaffolding across the entire building. On the east side, support scaffolding was utilized from the 11th floor upwards for the cantilevering superstructure. The central city location of "The Doctoren" presented challenges due to limited storage space, necessitating a precise just-in-time delivery schedule for all materials.
